Traffic Engineers Wanted
Because the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) of Dubai obviously doesn’t have any!
We have been quite lucky living on the outskirts of Dubai as we manage to avoid most of the traffic jams that occur on a regular basis here. That is, until now.
I think I’ve mentioned this previously, but near our home is a very large roundabout (about 1km diameter). During rush-hour it can get pretty hairy driving around it as we often have to do all sorts of dodgy maneuvers just to get off at the correct exit, and quite often there would be minor nose-to-tail or sideswiping accidents. As a result of this, quite a few people complained about how hazardous it can be.
So, the RTA’s solution was to install traffic lights on the roundabout. Now, they haven’t quite figured out how to setup the light phasing, and currently only one entrance to the raoundabout gets a green light at any one time. Remember that this roundabout is about 1km in diameter, so you can imagine how long it takes before the lights are green for your entrance again. So now, where previously it would take 5-10 min to get from home to the other side of the roundabout, it now takes about 30min.
Outside of peak traffic time.
We now have to research other methods of getting into town, without going through this roundabout.
Trapped.
